During
the last few years CMUC has implemented a number of projects. Some of the key
projects were:
Book Donation Project
from Sabre Foundation, USA
According
to the agreement with the Sabre Foundation in 1997 and 1999, textbooks and books
amounting to US$ 1,0 million were donated. Most of these books were delivered to
member universities of CMUC, primary and secondary schools of rural areas as
well as education and publishing organizations within Mongolia.
University
Affiliation Program, Utah Valley State College, USA
STIMULUS Project on
strengthening of International Cooperation with Mongolian Universities
This
compact project is intended to strengthen international cooperation between
Mongolian universities and overseas counterparts. The counterparts of the
project are the University of Arts and Culture (Mongolia), the University of
Ghent (Belgium), the University of Osnabruck (Germany) and the University of
Lund (Sweden) with coordination of CMUC.
The
sum of US$ 240,000 will be dedicated to support the publishing of new textbooks
for universities. Currently, 60 textbooks are planned to be published and CMUC
is encouraging its member-universities to provide to be published new textbook
by founding Textbook Foundation.
National Conference
“Mongolian Higher Education: Vision for the 21st Century”
This
conference took place on 4-5 February 1999 in Ulaanbaatar. It was a good
opportunity to share the experience and practical findings in the reform of
higher education in Mongolia and to define a vision for the development of
higher education in the next millennium.
First Forum of
Teachers of Mongolian Universities and Colleges
First
Forum of Teachers of Mongolian Universities and Colleges was organized on 6-7
February 1999 in Ulaanbaatar. This Forum was organized by CMUC along with the
Ministry of Science, Technology, Education and Culture of Mongolia (MOSTEC) and
involved nearly 500 people including 350 official delegates representing 104
public and private universities and colleges.
Under
this project, ABI/INFORM RESEARCH Compact Disks are provided to universities and
now it is possible to introduce Mongolian researchers and teachers to databases
and indexes of world researches and scientific publications.
Training
seminars were organized for teachers of CMUC member-universities and colleges.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sponsored 15 teachers in the fields of
mathematics and physics for training at the Darmstadt University of Technology.
With collaboration of Spanish University of Cataluna a training seminar for
universities’ librarians was organized in 1999.
This Project at a cost of US$ 400,000 has set up a computer network linking the universities to one another and to the Internet. Currently, 14 universities are connected to Erdemnet (“knowledge net”) and 10 more will be linked in coming years. All the resources of the Internet and WWW are now available and administered by CMUC. The member institutions contribute to a budget to maintain the network.
